Aren't these cute little wood slice ornaments just darling? Best of all, they are simple to make and no serious crafting capability is required!
In this article, I'll share my supply list as well as step-by-step instructions of how to create these DIY wood slice ornaments today!
So, what do you need to create these little cuties? Here's what I used (along with some links on where to order them if you want!)
My Supplies List:
Ok - now on to the how-to...
First, you'll want to paint your wood slices with your craft paint using a small paintbrush. I used red as my background color, because I planned to have my design be white. But, green might be a good alternative for Christmas-themed ornaments or blue for the snowflakes...
Once the acrylic paint dries, you are ready to apply the design to your painted wood slice. This is the fun part!
Remove the adhesive backed silkscreen transfer from the white carrier sheet, putting it aside to use later. Adhere the transfer to the wood slice, re-positioning as necessary to get it right where you want it!
Open you chalkpaste container and give it a good stir. Chalk Couture's multi-purpose tool is great for this, but a plastic knife works fine, too! Once your chalkpaste is the consistency of yogurt (if too thick, add a few drops of water and stir a bit more), you're ready to spread it over your transfer.
Dip your small squeegee into the chalkpaste jar, and apply a thin layer of chalkpaste across the screen, covering the mesh area. Squeegee excess paste off the design and put back into the jar.
Pull your transfer off the wood ornament before paste dries (you should work pretty quickly here!) and VOILA! the design is revealed! The chalkpaste will go on wet and dry hard within a couple of minutes. To make the design permanent, spray with matte acrylic spray.
When you're done making ornaments, be sure to gently wash your silkscreen transfer with water and wipe clean with a disinfectant wipe. Let air dry, sticky side up, on a towel.
When done using the transfer, stick it back onto the glossy side of the white carrier sheet it came with.
